Things I LOVE Thursday

by Madison on June 14, 2012

Well bonjour.

It is that time of the week again. THURSDAY! It’s like in spin class, when your working at 90% of your maximum capacity and you know that your going to sprint downhill in like 2.5 seconds, so it’s much easier to work at 90% capacity. (Actually, I am not sure what is worse for me, the 90%, or the sprint down the hill)

I hope you all enjoy working at your maximum capacity today people, for in 2.5 seconds..you will begin your sprint downhill. (Friday = Sprint Downhill. In case you couldn’t follow me.)

As for me? I am already sprinting down that hill. Well, I’m actually in my favorite state on a mini-vacation, so I’m not even sprinting downhill, I’m just walking down it..stopping to smell the roses, or indian paintbrush (see mom? I did pay attention to your nature lessons as a child). One of the perks of my job, is that it’s not important. (oh I know, teaching is so wonderful, I’m changing lives, I’m moulding (english teacher lesson? moulding = British/molding = USA) destinies. Blah. It’s June. The only thing I want to change, is which position I will be lying in - while tanning, in order to optimize the sun to skin ratio. The only thing I want to mould is the bendy straw in my drink in order to minimize the amount of work to get the drink to mouth.) Anyhow, I digress – yes. It is slightly easier to take a day off when you are not some big fancy partner at a law firm, or a neurosurgeon, on call at Seattle Grace Hospital. (places in TV shows really exist, right?)

Well, on to the goods. As it is Thursday.. I know you are ALL on the edge of your seats for THINGS I LOVE THURSDAY (Montana Edition).

1) Frank Slide

Now.  Given that my blog stats show that most of my readers do not live in Canada. And, let’s face it - probably don’t think to themselves… “hey! let’s go drive through Alberta and find that place where half a mountain fell on a town!!”. I will give you the shortened low down. Long time ago, half a mountain slide and fell on a town (allegedly killing everyone). I drive through it every single time I make my way to Montana. I always drive REALLY slow, because I have a theory. (now, don’t get excited. It is just a theory, it MAY not be true). My theory is that the people of the town survived, AND created their own civilization underneath all the rock (similar to Atlantis, which we all know does exist) and every time I drive by, I swear there will be some sign of life. There never is. Shocking. (I can’t believe I just admitted that this is what goes through my brain while driving by a historical site. I am certified to teach young minds you know. Complaints can be directed to the Alberta Teachers Association.)

2) My Shoulder/Tendonitis feels better.

I woke up this morning, and (WOO HOO!) my shoulder felt better, AND so did my wrist. I just thought this was worth mentioning, especially since I really am happy about it. I was momentarily tempted to go to a pilates class here at the best studio ever, but I resisted and thought it’s best to continue on my break. My theory as to why I am semi- healed? Montana is like Narnia, (worth noting? I think C.S Lewis is amazing) so when I passed through the border, I was healed. The mountain air or something.

3) The Keurig

I believe that this love affair needs no explanation. My love of coffee needs no explanation. If I had to choose between my Keurig or Soda Stream, in terms of “drink making” machines… it would be a toss up. I would obviously take both.

(Sidebar: Something I also love? I went to see the Doctor yesterday. He is ALWAYS on my case about drinking coffee, he’s one of those anti-coffee Doctors. Evil.  Anyway, I was sitting in his waiting room (for an hour, what the heck, no it’s fine Dr. I don’t have anywhere to be) and his wife, who works there, was talking to the receptionist about how she hadn’t had her morning cup of coffee yet, and felt out of sorts. AH HA! Take that DOCTOR! Your own wife doesn’t listen to your anti-coffee drivel!! Game set match doc. Game. Set. Match. (I still don’t know really what this means, it could be a tennis term. Regardless, let’s pretend it means I won, and the Dr. lost, and I am consuming many, many, cups of Starbucks Verona in victory))

4) Alone Time

I have no picture to illustrate alone time. All I can tell you is that last night, someone said to me “you sure like your alone time don’t you”. I really do. My job is one in which I am never alone. I don’t sit behind a computer all day. When I do, and I look up, there are about 30 sets of eyes staring at me. So, I like to decompress sometimes. I do think it’s unhealthy to be alone all the time, but I also think it’s unhealthy to never be alone.

After a really, really, REALLY, tough break-up, the first weekend I had to spend alone, was terrifying. I remember my dad saying “at least you know that you can do it, enjoy a weekend by yourself”. At the time, I thought he was crazy, but now I know what he means. It’s good to not have to depend on other people for your own personal enjoyment or pleasure. And I don’t. I love hanging with my friends. I LOVE hanging with my family. But I also love myself enough to really enjoy alone time.

5) Having the whole day to myself!

This morning I woke up and thought… “what do I have to do today?”. The answer? Nothing!  I  just want to get a work out in. I love this. I love working out (would I be writing on a healthy living blog if I didn’t?!) but sometimes, having to get up super early to fit it in, is really not that much fun. Therefore, I love days like today where I have the whole day TO MYSELF, and I can work out WHENEVER I WANT!

Oh man. Life is good today. (it’s good everyday, if you’re practicing gratefulness and all, but today is especially good)

That being said, I’m going to go to the gym. It’s an off running day, due to yesterday’s 9 miles and my promise to myself, and my hip, to not run two days in a row…which means it’ll be Bethenny and I on the elliptical. (I swear, if she met me, we’d be BEST FRIENDS).

Anyhow… There’s my “Things I LOVE Thursday”.  There is always something to love.

Have a wonderful day! It’s almost Friday. (like you needed the reminder)

P.S – Saw this on Facebook this morning. I feel like it really sums up my blogging style.
